Dendrosomal Curcumin Inhibits Metastatic Potential of SW480 Colon Cancer Cells

چکیده
Colorectal cancer (CRCs) is the third most common cancer in men and the second in women (Ferlay et al., 2008; Ku et al., 2012). Generally, the lowest incidence rates among both men and women are reported in Africa, Central and South America, and South Central Asia (India and Pakistan) (Ferlay et al., 2008; Ku et al., 2012). The prognosis for advanced CRCs remains dismal, mainly due to the propensity for metastatic progression (Gulhati et al., 2011). In the initial step of cancer metastasis, tumor cells sometimes undergo epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which requires the disruption of cell-cell adhesions (Hynes, 2002; Meng and Takeichi, 2009). In many cases, metastasis may occur as a result of dysregulation in cell adhesions molecules or signaling cascades proteins involved in cell adhesion such as Hef 1 (Li et al., 2011), Zeb 1 (Amar et al., 2011) and Claudin 1(Cld 1) (Nobutomo et al., 2001), that in previous study, were suggested to be associated with cellular migration in colon cancer. Accordingly, there is a need for nontoxic therapeutic agents which are easy and effective to use for cancer prevention and treatment. About 80% of all anticancer drugs today are somehow composed from

Comparative evaluation of curcumin and curcumin loaded- dendrosome nanoparticle effects on the viability of SW480 colon carcinoma and Huh7 hepatoma cells
Background and objectives: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and a major cause of morbidity globally. Hepatocellular carcinoma is a leading cause of death in the world. About 80% of all anticancer drugs are somehow related to natural products. One of the most important of these natural compounds is curcumin, the main component of turmeric that has a wide range of pharmacological...
متن کاملTumor Suppressor p53 Can Protect Normal Cells Against Dendrosomal Curcumin-Induced Apoptosis
Curcumin is a natural substance with anti-cancerous properties without many disadvantages of currently-used anticancer drugs. Its toxicity is significantly higher in tumor cells compared with normal cells. We hypothesized the difference of p53 function between normal and tumor cells as one of the presumable causes of this phenomenon. We knocked down the expression of p53 in normal fibrobl...
متن کاملThe Serotonin 5-HT2A Receptor Antagonist Ritanserin Induces Apoptosis in Human Colorectal Cancer and Acts in Synergy with Curcumin
Curcumin exhibits both cancer- preventive activity and growth inhibitory effects on several neoplastic cells including human colon cancer. Serotonin and its receptors have also been implicated in tumor development. This study investigated the effect of ritanserin, a selective serotonin 5HT2A receptor antagonist, alone and in combination with curcumin on colorectal cancer cell lines. Result...
متن کاملCurcumin inhibits the proteasome activity in human colon cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.
Curcumin (diferuloylmethane) is the major active ingredient of turmeric (Curcuma longa) used in South Asian cuisine for centuries. Curcumin has been shown to inhibit the growth of transformed cells and to have a number of potential molecular targets. However, the essential molecular targets of curcumin under physiologic conditions have not been completely defined. Herein, we report that the tum...
متن کاملUp-regulation of miR-21 decreases chemotherapeutic effect of dendrosomal curcumin in breast cancer cells
Objective(s): Despite the good results of anticancer activities by curcumin, there are some hurdles that limit the use of curcumin as an anticancer agent. Many methods were examined to overcome this defect like the use of the dendrosomal curcumin (DNC). There is increasing evidence that miRNAs play important roles in biological processes. In this study, we focus on the roles of microRNA-21 in t...
